Birth Announcement and Baptismal Invites for Kyrie

I made this birth announcement and baptismal invitation for my goddaughter, Kyrie.

These pursecards were made using Silhouette Cameo.  I love, love my Cameo!

I went for simple and elegant design for the baptismal.

Altered Hooks

Craft room is in a better state now.  Found lot of things to work on.  Found lot of things that's full of awesomeness when you add a couple things.

While doing the big task,  I found this antique hook I bought at the Japanese store months ago.  You know, when I buy things, I don't have any definite plan or idea.  Modesty aside, I buy them because I know I will and can make something out of it.  Call it hoarding but I like the fact that I have it when I need and want it. Most of the stuff you can buy at the Japs store runs out immediately.

This project is still not done when I took this picture.  I will show the final outcome once the recipient got it.  Yes, this is a gift to a friend.  I really love making handmade gifts to people.

All Hail, Queen Rarity...

Couple days ago, I posted that while I was on the big task of cleaning my room, I got destructed or should I say inspired by some goodies I picked-up.  It all started with 4 things and initially, it looks like this...

I was really eager to finish the task but it took me at least another day to conceptualize my next artwork.
Well, I can't keep the excitement and love, love to share the outcome with you.
Everyone meet Queen Rarity...

 Started out from a wooden spoon, thread, molded clay and a small flower.  With a little work, she turned into a beautiful creation...

She was named Rarity by my kids, who are both fans of My Little Pony...

Tim Holtz 12 Tags of 2014 - Smudge Stamping

Hey friends, it's time once again for another Tim Holtz 12 tags of 2014. Smudge stamping is the theme for the month of March.  I opted to show you the "full strength" version since my daughter decided to snag the "second generation".

 

I did all the steps and possibly more. Glad I was given the chance to once again play with my seldom use Stampin' Up! marker spritzer. Thanks for looking!

To note: TH was right, manila tags absorbs the inks better than an ordinary CS.

Mixed Media Art Canvass: Dream, Ella...

Nowadays, I know very few people who doesn't have Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter account.  Our society revolves too much on technology and social media.  It maybe a bad idea but one thing is sure, it keeps communication line open.  

At night when I go to bed, I used to read a book, or a magazine, or an Archie comics or even a Bible.  Almost every night now especially on workdays, I have the tendency to open my FB and read couple post before I completely doze off .  Most often than not, we read trash but some are really worth knowing and even worth sharing.

Artist and crafters often times find their inspiration in the weirdest situation or place.  When it does, make sure to take advantage of it and so I did, even if that means, its from Facebook, LOL...

A crafty friend posted and shared this poem in FB:

I hope that you will dream dangerously and outrageously,
That you will make something that didn't exist before you made it,
I hope that you will be liked,
And that you will have people to love and like in return,
And most importantly, because I think there should be more kindness and more wisdom in the world right now,
I hope that you will, when you need to be, be wise and that you will always be kind...

This is my very first mixed media art canvass, which I made for my dearest and precious daughter, Ella. 

We both loved it!

Getting late now, enough post for the day.  Night everyone...

There is always a first time...

Just like the old saying, "There is always a first time for everything."  I often tell people that I was born with paper and scissors in my hand but somehow I lost the pencil.  For some reason, sketching/drawing scares me.  This has always been a big challenge for me.

Somehow, something had positively changed and it made me wonder. Whatever it is, I'm liking it.  My husband said that maybe my creative learning had gone past being crafty.  He said that maybe I have now reached the point where I am discovering the artist side of  me.  I'm pretty sure that mixed media art and a bunch of talented artists that I have followed, read and watched had made a huge difference.  Thanks to them, now I am ready to start a new journey...  The journey of sketching...  It will probably hard but patience and hard work always pay off.

Sharing with you my first 2 attemps:

 1.) My take on Queen Marie Antoinette of France. 

Up to this time, this drawing remains the same, not colored or anything.  

Plain and raw...

 

2.) A much modern woman... 

She is funky, stylish and carefree...

 I painted the sketch with Caran d'Ache Neocolors II Artist crayons and acrylic paints.

I don't know what happened but this particular watercolor paper had a mind of its own and decided to warp.  This is my very first sketch and no way will I throw it.  

This artwork means so much to me.  

And so I continue...

 Presenting, my first ever drawing in a sparkling and dazzling mixed media background...

Added embellishment here and there and voila!

Some might say that it has head, hair, eyes and lips that are way too big.

She has weird tiny nose, a long neck and small body...

The list can go on but heck, I'm proud to say this is my artwork...

Proud... Proud...Proud...

I finally overcame a fear, a challenge and this reinforces the fact that everything can be done if you put your mind and heart in it.

Conquering Chaos

CHAOS: combination of being sicked, breaking the rule: clean as you, buying more stuff and on top of that doing your inventory. Yes, it drives me crazy so task for that day is to clean, clean, clean...

 

 

I have tried to post about my crafting/art corner of our house for several times in the past.  Laziness always, always would get in the way.  Instead what I am showing you today was nothing but plain mess BUT! it's a my beautiful mess...

That day,  I decided to conquer this chaos.

But wait again!  You maybe seeing a huge jumble in my room but I see different. In the midst of it, an idea popped! I picked 4 things from that beautiful mess: wooden spoon, molded clay, thread and a tiny flower. 

I know that later, when/if/after I add something in it, it will be another fun ARTWORK! I know, I know... I have a mind that has all the creative juices yet I have hands and body that could not seem to cope. 

That day I let this project sit, stared at it and continued doing the big task. I was hopeful that there's no more destruction/inspiration!  Is that possible, you think!?

One ideas after another just keep flowing in the mind.  I know sooner or later, I have to get my hands dirty again for another fun project.  

Focus, focus, focus! And yes, I focused on cleaning that room because I know I will be able to work better...

Mixed Media Tag: Fish

Sometime ago,I made another tag using a repurposed packet from stamp.  I prep it with gesso, painted with acrylic, used stencil and modeling paste, brushed it up with glossy medium and added embellishments.

 

 

 

This tag is full of textures and considered one of my favorite work...
Loved the bubbles, the corals and the fish!
See that corals!?
That was a Martha Stewart clay and its actually a branch.
Creativity, right!?

Tim Holtz 12 Tags of 2014: February

Since I started doing Mixed Media art, I now have a better appreciation of grunge designs and Tim Holtz products.  Thanks to Rachel of Artful Evidence for great inspiration and tutorials.

"Be inspired to make something creative for the one’s you love", was the theme of Tim Holtz 12 tags of February 2014. 

Here's to show you how I made mine:

 1.) I repurposed one of those chipboard packets from an embellishment and used it as my tag.

 2.) I dry embossed it using Tim Holtz embossing folder: bubble wrapping.

 3.) I painted the tag with a light coat of white gesso.  Tag I used was coated, so I needed to do this extra step.

4.) This is how it looks like after the white gesso dried. 

Then on top of the white gesso, I painted the tag with black gesso. 

5.) Does that still look like a repurposed tag?  Nah, right!? 

Love the texture but its way too glossy... 

Time to bring out the chalk.  Thanks to my children!

But wait! 

Don't use the chalk just yet.

 6.) Before chalking, I sprayed my tag with chalkboard mist to get rid of its glossiness.

 I'm sure too that by using the mist, the chalk will settle better in tag.

 7.) Next, I distressed the tag.  See the white gesso coming out!? 

Fun!

 8.) I started using white chalk and used baby wipes to wipe off some of the excess.  I want the white gesso to pop out.

 9.) Since, it's Valentines, I added some red chalk in it too.

Then, I inked the edges of the tag using distressed inkpad. 

Nice, right!?

 10.) Assemblage begins!

Cut a heart, used leftover die-cut sentiments and tore up some pieces of papers.

 11.) Time to bring out the stamps and start stamping!

 12.) After stamping, I spot painted white gesso and added drops of 

Liquitex professional acrylic ink (pyrrole red).

 13.) Assemblage begins...

First, I adhered the die-cut heart.

Then, I highlighted everything using charcoal, black marker and white paint marker.

Added the embellishment: flowers, metallic findings, trims, laces, light bulb and charms. 

I also added couple stitches.

 

14.)At this time, I am still thinking if I want to add more. 

 But then again, I decided to stop from here...
